Hello.

When learning Aikido, many of the things I think are parents who want their children to learn.

I get asked this question often.
"I want my child to practice Aikido, what do you think?"

Hmm. . .
To be honest, it's "difficult."

I'll write the reason later though.

But don't worry.

This time, we will explain what it would be like for children (especially elementary school students) to learn aikido?
I've written about the advantages and disadvantages of this.

Please see the article below for more information about the dojo (classroom) that teaches aikido in Kumamoto.

Disadvantages of children learning aikido

First, let me explain the disadvantages.

Even as an adult, I think "it's hard to understand!" Aikido

What is difficult to understand?
It's exactly "I don't feel it."

It's easy to understand by defeating your opponent with punches or kicks, or
throwing them to hold them down

However, most Aikido techniques are "relaxed" to apply them.
So when a technique actually succeeds, I don't feel it.

That's why I feel like, "Is it really possible?"
That's the depth of Aikido.

But don't worry.
There's a lot more you can get than that.

So, I will explain in my own way what benefits it has.

Benefits of children learning aikido

There are three major advantages, but I think there are three main advantages.

Benefit 1: Grow your mind and brighten it

There are some things I think about while practicing.
I feel like there are many children who are not able to greet them cheerfully.
Are you embarrassed?

However, after participating in the practice several times,
they start greeting me loudly, "Good evening!!" from the time I came.

It's probably a big factor to get along with other kids.

As a specific example, there were some kids who spoke a lot to adults, but some of their generation were shy.
It seemed awkward and nervous during the rehearsals.

However, he was an honest child, so after a month he made one more close friend with each and every one of them.
As a result, he pulled out a younger child and
became good at cleaning, and
I was surprised at how much he grew.

This will help you gain confidence.

Benefit 2: It's less likely to get injured

This is about injuries that parents are worried about.

There are no "matches" in Aikido.
I will continue to practice, known as shaped practice.
And we will thoroughly teach you "passiveness."

I rarely
fall in strange ways and hurt my hands and feet or In fact, I won't let you do it!

However, it cannot be said that you will never get injured.
During your first lesson, you may have a slight rub or cut on your knees.

I'm worried about that kind of injury!
If you think so, we recommend that you visit the training session.
It would be nice to ask the other children's parents what it feels like.

If you feel that it's tough, it would be a good idea to consult with your teacher.
It's also important to check the teaching methods together.

Benefit 3: Learn etiquette

This is related to benefits 1.

In martial arts, greetings are the basics.

In Aikido, we always practice in pairs with someone.
The other child is having trouble or worried.
You will acquire the kindness of understanding and guiding the other person's situation.

Also, before and after practice,
setting up frames (such as the spirit of Aikido)
, cleaning the dojo
, greeting teachers and other members,
and cleaning up afterwards.

There is.
When cleaning, I do my best to suit my surroundings.
Even quiet children will be able to greet them in a lively manner.
You can treat things with great care.

In this way, you can first develop an important human mindset.
The technique can be applied afterwards.

When you say hello loudly, everyone will feel better.

summary

Thank you for reading to the end.

Aikido is always a positive thing for children!
Of course, it's also for adults.

That's right, one important thing.
It's good to let your child learn it, but
please check the individual's wishes.
Being forced to do it reluctantly is the most painful thing.

In the dojo (classroom), classes are often divided into children's classes, separate from adults.

Let's enjoy Aikido together!
